Hello, my name is Jessica Fair and I am the College Coordinator for Martel. I am married and have one elementary school boy and one middle school girl. We have a rescue puppy, Cutter, who is part Schnauzer with a very scruffy beard and bushy eyebrows. My husband and I met at Tulane University, where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Management degree with majors in Management and French. While at Tulane, I served as a Resident Advisor and was a member of a living and learning
community program similar to Rice’s residential college system. I have a background in Human Resources and also many years of experience volunteering in Houston public schools. I enjoy dance, the visual arts, traveling, gardening, and planning social events.

 

I am happy to be part of Martel and to help preserve Martel’s many traditions. My office is located in the Rotunda, right before you enter the Commons and right next to Martel’s mail room. I am here to assist you and I love it when Martelians stop by to say hello. I can help with keys, mail, packages, and finding resources on campus. I have lots of supplies on hand and can give you a Band-Aid, lend you some scissors, or sell you a stamp.

 

I am excited to welcome you to Rice University and to Houston, aka Space City, USA! Both Rice University and Houston have strong connections to NASA. You can even view a moon rock on display in Rice’s Fondren Library. I have lived in Houston since 2008 and am married to a native Houstonian. I love talking about Houston’s many wonderful restaurants, shops, museums, parks, and concert venues.

 

If you would like to talk something through, I am here to listen. If you have questions, I am here to help find an answer. I can also help to connect you with resources and programs on campus. I have a candy bowl on my desk ready at all times. Please stop by to say hello and let me know how I can help.

 

I will often be the first point of contact for various departments, faculty, and staff. I support Martel Parliament and student committee initiatives, along with the Martel Core Team. I also work closely with
the College Coordinator team and the Office of the Dean of Undergraduates to ensure that the college runs smoothly.

I am so happy to be a member of the Best College Ever! The Martel community describes itself as a large family. Welcome to the family! I look forward to getting to know you through our time together.
