Hey Martel!
A little bit about me: I'm originally from New York City and have a background in Spanish
Literature and Latin American Studies as well as Public Interest Law. I have worked at Rice as a Program Administrator in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department for the last ten years. I enjoy cooking and sharing Caribbean and Spanish dishes, dancing salsa, doing crafts, traveling, watching documentaries, nurturing plants, and rediscovering Houston, especially its many ethnic communities.
Martel welcomed me into its family in January 2018. I am passionate about supporting the
Martel Diversity Council and first-gen and low-income (FGLI) students, celebrating Martelians' gifts and cultures when they showcase those at Rice, and hosting Spanish language tables.
I share my home with Portia, a spunky 11-year-old miniature schnauzer who loves attention and might surprise you with her “little” bark. I’m looking forward to getting to know you and discussing topics of mutual interest, whether seemingly silly or serious. I’m especially looking forward to welcoming you at my home (Suite 327). I'm easy to reach and love to chat so don't hesitate to join me for a cup of tea or coffee or invite me to join you at mealtime in the Commons or after cooking a meal in the Martel kitchen.
¡Bienvenidos!
