accessibility at martel
resources by and for martelians.
This fund was created to ensure that every Rice student has access to the best possible experience, regardless of financial background. This money is allocated from the Martel budget every year.
This fund is available for any individual for whom the standard cost would make the event or experience prohibitive. Some examples of requests that have been approved include:
-
Rice and Martel merchandise
-
transportation to college related events
-
off-campus dinners with other Rice student
-
peer-led trips
-
tickets to Rondelet, Esperanza, Senior Gala, or other campus wide events
-
other bonding events with Martelian
-
emergencies

Other costs that may be prohibitive such as purchasing textbooks, graduate school prep, laptop repairs, or large emergency needs should be directed towards campus-wide funds. Learn more about these funds here.
The A-team will do their best to accommodate the requests they receive. Allow at least a week in advance for your request to be approved. Requests are up to the discretion of the Magisters, keeping in mind that the fund must last for everyone for the entire year, but also that making events and activities accessible to everyone improves all of our Rice experiences.
The form for Martel accessibility fund requests is anonymous. The only people who will see your request are Bonnie, Livia, and Daniel. They have a no questions asked policy and will not be checking financial aid so all students with a need qualify.
Please reach out to Nathan, Bonnie or the Magisters if you have any questions!
