Hey Martel!

We are excited to be your 327 RAs and get to know each of you! We have been together since March 2020 (right as the world was shutting down!), got married in July 2024 and now live just upstairs with our very spoiled Maltese, Monty.

I (Mecia) have been at Rice for 3 years and currently serve as the Assistant Director for Employer Engagement in the School of Social Sciences, where I help graduate students explore career paths and connect with meaningful opportunities. I earned my BA in Sociology from Baylor, an MA in Educational Leadership from UCF, and an MBA from Texas Woman’s University. As an Army Brat who moved frequently - attending nine schools K-12 across places like Germany and Hawaii - I care deeply about creating space for people to be their authentic selves. For fun, I love planning themed events and dressing up, exploring Houston’s food scene, and keeping up with Netflix.

Marty is an entrepreneur at heart - passionate about connecting people, solving problems, and all things logistics, transportation, and supply chains. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Texas Woman’s University and a Master of Finance from the University of St. Thomas. He’s currently a Key Account Manager at Palletized Trucking and has worked across several industries - including food science, car sales, commercial insurance, and running his own trucking company. Every pivot has reflected his love of business, relationships, and real-world problem solving. As a first-gen American and the descendant of a long line of entrepreneurs in Nigeria, Martin brings a deep sense of purpose and legacy to everything he does. He’s also a big fan of anime, WWE, and any sport you can name - so there’s usually something streaming in our apartment.

Fun fact: we’re both Virgos, which means we take pride in showing up with care, paying attention to the details that matter, and creating intentional spaces where people feel supported.

Our goal is to be resourceful advocates and reliable presences in the Martel community. Don’t hesitate to reach out - whether you need help brainstorming a challenge, want to join us for a meal, or just need someone to listen.
